The Hague: One Year, A Visual Diary
This photo-book was designed by Brigitte Schuster. The project can be seen in detail here: http://brigitteschuster.com/the-hague-artist-book
What quickly drew me in was the binding method used for this book. It is a form of coptic stitching that does not obscure the spine of each signature. Using this to its advantage, the designer has printed patterns and text on the spines in a decorative order. The off-centre placement of the two middle stitches encases perfectly a set of colour strips on the signatures which is a very neat detail. This binding format also allows for the book to lay flat when open for better view of the inside pages.
The contents of the book are in the form of a visual diary, showcasing mostly street photography taken by the designer/author, and some small writings.
