Sophie Punt no 3
Sophie Punt no 3
This piece was created by Julie Doucet in 2000. The series shown at the BAnQ included her no 2, no 3, no 11 and no 34 however I chose to only look at no 3. What caught my eye was the type printed on top of the existing type as well as the colors used. As it is type on top of type, it is difficult to read is, however, I believe it was created for an aesthetic reason rather than for readability. She uses many different fonts and illustrations to convey her message.
Julie Doucet is a Canadian cartoon Artist born in Montreal. Topics often found in her work include topics such as sex, violence, menstruation and male/female issues. This shows well in the artwork I chose as the colors are pink and red and there is a female on the right page.
Her artwork is very inspiring and I am considering to play with type layering for my second book due to having captivating and unique I find her work. I definitely enjoy working with aesthetics and she works with one I enjoy quick a bit. She tells her story through that aesthetic rather than structured text which I find particularly interesting.
