newspaper stand

This is an image of a newspaper stand in Montreal in 1996. It was found on the website of Montreal's archives. This stand is a great example of a lack of hierarchy. In this image we notice the use of  different fonts including serif and sans-serif ones. The juxtaposition of many fonts, the different sizes of the letters and the different colors make the stand chaotic and the magazines hard to read. Even if some fonts are very attention-grabbing, altogether, they are not eye-catching.The audience consists of the people who are walking in the street.
This will influence my work because it is a great example of an information overload. The lack of hierarchy forces the observer to have a closer look at the different magazines because there is so much information to process. This technique could be used in a graphic design work.
