Kenneth Vanoverbeke
These posts were published on Instagram by Kenneth Vanoverbeke, a graphic designer and visual artist based in Belgium. In these images, he shows his own typefaces. Most of his typographic work consists of display typefaces. Legibility is not one of his priorities. Instead, he tries to create his own visual language by playing with type. He starts off by sketching out abstract shapes and he ends up with more defined letters. He gets inspired by a piece of artwork and tries to create a type that can coexist with the artwork in a harmonious way. His type is manipulated through the physical process of combining hand drawn shapes. After creating the initial letters, he uses the computer to distort them according to the artwork he is using with his font.
This will influence my work because I enjoy the playfulness in his work. I like the way he manipulates type to create a mix of organic and geometric shapes.
