This is typography sketch by Chris Ashworth based on the Soundtrack « Disorder » by Joy Division. The materials and utensils used are an IKEA Catalog, Letraset, Biro, Technical Pencil, Typex/Liquid Paper/White-Out, Cartridge, Paper and Pritstick. The visible work with pens, pencils and other utensils make it for me enjoyable. It looks like «work»!
The Font used is a Transitional Sans Serif (I guess Helvetica or Arial). The arrangement of the type in combination with the different materials are visualizing the message of «disorder» perfectly (in my opinion). The different surfaces make it almost perceptible and touchable. The visualization has a physical feeling. The mistakes made, which are not mistakes actually, make the unperfect surface perfect.
This will influence my perfectionism, which is sometimes not a good thing, in my work. It is a good example to let go and work with the flow/mistake. I think of typography as it is printed as something definitive and done. The work should not tell you when it is done. My rule: The work shouldn't influence the creativity! Work the «hell» out of it, the result could be surprising good.
