This piece is made of metal and the shadow cast from the lighting completes the word. In this case, the type is manipulated through shadows. The audience for this piece, which could be found in an exhibition or art gallery is probably a general public or art and typography enthusiasts.
What attracted me to this piece was the different ways that it can be viewed or interpreted. The word "hide" is expressed by having half of the word coming out from the ground which suggests that the other half is "hiding" in the ground. But the aspect of hiding is also symbolized in the shadows, because there is darkness or a lack of visibility in shadows. The way the artist played with the mirroring effect of the shadows is interesting as well. The artist also took advantage of the symmetry in these letters to create this piece.
What I have learned in this piece is that typography is not only two dimensional, but it can also be found in 3D or it can be a physical object. Creating typography in three dimensions can create an interesting texture or shape to words and can also suggest a meaning to them.
