Truman Capote, In Cold Blood
Truman Capote, In Cold Blood
Is an account of two men, Richard Eugene Hickock and Perry Edward Smith, who murdered the Clutter family in 1959. In the book's synopsis, Perry Smith is described as "one of the great dark characters of American Literature, full of contradictory emotions."
The paragraph text is set in a digitized version of Janson and the title on the dust cover is set in a Didone typeface. The Didone typeface's high contrast compliments the contradictory emotions described in the synopsis. Both typefaces have bracketed serifs. The red, black, and white colours rest on a gritty-textured dust cover, which speak to an economic theme. This theme is further established by the torn newspaper graphic.
The typographic choices made for this book have inspired me to work hard at finding two or more typefaces that harmoniously aid to the reception of the text.
