Hot Wheels
This image shows a miniature car toy found on Marketplace. It is from the brand Hot Wheels. This company has a large variety of plastic toys for kids which are manufactured by Mattel toys.
According to fontmeme.com, “The logo of Hot Wheels was designed using a font very similar to Heavy Heap designed by Typodermic Fonts. Heavy Heap is a flaming, 1960’s style kustom headliner featuring lowered suspension, a chopped roof line, plenty of chrome and a full flame job.”
This is a display typeface. Indeed, this typeface was not designed for long texts. The letters are distorted and have an organic shape which reminds me of flames. Furthermore, the use of warm colors and the word “hot” accentuates the warmth of the font. Also, the type follows a curved Path. Since this toy is marketed towards kids, the designer chose a playful approach.
This example will influence your own creative work because I learned how drastically the shape of a font (organic versus geometric) can enhance the message.
