You Were Warned

This sign was found "taped" to a broken wardrobe door that was laying around in my house. The typefaces used here could be classified under the decorative type as it is handwritten, and quite inconsistent.
This sign, as it was aforementioned, was found on a broken door, and its purpose was to warn, either family members of the house or their guests, to not touch it as it could easily fall and harm someone.
The reason why I chose this piece as an example of bad typography would be because of its overall composition, and use of medium. To be more specific, the layout of this sign is very chaotic through its inconsistent font size and with the giant exclamation mark disturbing the message. Moreover, the reader may read the text as "Do Not No!!! Touch!", or "Do Not" and then, "No!!! Touch!". Another aspect of this sign that would be problematic would be the choice of colours used. In fact, the message that it is trying to convey would be one to warn others of danger. In this case, instead of using a black marker that is about to run out of ink, against a beige coloured paper, the message would have been more effective if the writing was in red against an entirely white background.
Overall, this exercise has taught me to be more attentive to the message that a text is trying to convey in order to, not only find the appropriate typeface, but also choose an appropriate colour palette and graphic elements for any graphic work.
