Lekhaim! is a book written by Malka Zipora. This copy was published by Les éditions du passage. It contains short stories about the everyday life of a family of Hasidic Jews living in Montreal.
I believe the typeface used for this book is “Times New Roman” which is a serif font. Because of the way the book was designed, it is easy to read and to manipulate. The decisions made by the designer allow the reader to fully immerse himself in the text. Indeed, the length of each line and the size of the font enable the reader to navigate smoothly through the text. In addition, because of the size of the leading, the reader's eyes can distinguish each line easily. This makes for a page that is not overcrowded with words.
I find this example helpful for my design practice because this book is an exemplary model of great legibility. Since I am quite new to book design, I can now apply some of the strategies used in this book in my own work.
