Trouble in Paradise

This postcard was found at a tacky gift shop in Sarasota, Flordia. After having chosen four postcards with either a delicate or simple font, I needed to pick up one more postcard to get the 5/1$ deal.

The font on this postcard is confusing to me because there are only three words on the postcard, yet there are three different fonts. All of them are quite bold and they have a shadow which makes it difficult to read. The first font is very psychedelic looking, the second is a fancy cursive looking serif font and the last is an odd psychedelic, "pirate" serif font.

The words communicate the message of beach and vacation across by using these flowy, psychedelic fonts. However, I believe their message could have been stronger if they stuck to one of the fonts and got rid of the dark shadow.

It will influence my work by challenging myself to always find a typeface which helps enhance the message rather than taking away it. A good typeface should look effortless, not stand out as "what is this?"
