“The Song of Achilles” by Madeline Miller is a fiction novel about the relationship of Achilles and Patroclus. This novel targets readers who are interested in the classics or Ancient Greece. The reading level also targets young adult and adult readers.

The font chosen and used in this novel is very common in literature therefore it keeps the reading neutral, not distracting and easy to follow. The layout of the pages do not call attention to themselves and appear straightforward. As Beatrice Warde states in the Crystal Goblet, the typography is at it best when it is subservient to the content, therefore good typography is neutral and transparent. The first few words at the beginning of each paragraph is capitalized which helps indicate the start and allows the layout to stay organized.

This will influence my own creative work by creating type that is seamless, simple and legible. It is important to know that typography is a visual form of language linking timeless and time therefore creating a type and layout that does not call too much attention to itself is something I should try and strive for in my work.
