The typeface used is a standard serif font, Times New Roman.
The book has a reasonably sized leading, and the type size is 11, a little larger than standard book type size. The page numbers are organized in a clean, simple way with a horizontal line above it, dividing the text from the folio. The name of the book and author are treated in a similar way, with two vertical lines, almost holding them in place. They are also in all caps, making them visible, but not distracting. Each new chapter begins with a bold letter to indicate the beginning. Why this layout is effective is because the chapters are divided cleanly with an indentation and create a flow that is easy to follow. Each page has just enough text to keep the reader from being overwhelmed. the placement of the folio is also an element that is subtle, but straightforward. This layout does not call attention to itself but instead aids the reader in a better reading experience. I would like to experiment with the simple treatment of the text, to make my text beautiful, yet clean.
