This spread in the GQ magazine has a very obvious and strong grid, however, is a more unconventional grid system. The combination of a variety of shapes and sizes within the grid make the photos the emphasis on the page. The majority of the page is occupied by the grid system and its contents. This grid is bold and thick adding to the intensity of the page, not just being used to arrange the page layout. With the grid being used to focus on the photography, the slim column text is simple and small, which is also arranged in an unconventional shape. This simple and small font allows for the viewer to enjoy the imagery without being distracted. This complex and bold grid also creates leading lines throughout the page, allowing the viewers eye to move from corner to corner on this double page spread.

This creative and unconventional way of using a grid system to complement the works on the page is extremely interesting and is a great example that grid systems do not have to be conventional.
