Kitchen Classics

Bad Typography

I set out on my search for a case of bad typography, and as it turns out I didn't have to look very far. This photo of a can of mushroom pieces resided in my work place's pantry.

This can features an variety of 4 different typefaces, which is overwhelming to say the least. The brand name Astra Kitchen is in the Kaapeli Light font, the champignon part is Moderna Unicase Medium. There is also the word Classics thrown in for no apparent reason other than to display a sense luxury with it's script font.

The product is aimed for local kitchens and bars, which is most likely only sold on wholesale. I'm assuming that the only thing that the buyer is looking at is the price tag and weight.

While it is true that the branding for this product doesn't necessarily need any sort of aesthetically pleasing aspect, it wouldn't hurt to take a more simplistic approach. It seems as though it was designed by a child who just discovered that Word has more fonts than Times New Roman.
