ART PAPERS

Art Papers is an Atlanta-based nonprofit organization with an educational mission to provide accessible forums for documenting, examining, commissioning, and presenting contemporary art and culture in the world today. 1

This issue of Art Papers was published for July/August 2009. It addresses an art-savvy audience, that has a certain appreciation of aesthetics. As an art magazine, it seeks to showcase exhibitions and works of studio art through big colorful photos. The font used is a unbracketed serif font, set in 8pts. The font used is an example of crystal goblet typography, because it doesn’t demand all the attention. However, the magazine presents the text as accessory to the images. For this reason, the font is rather thin and effaced. This magazine exemplifies the challenges of designing pages with large images, in which the text often must contort to fit them. For example, the use of three columns of text present a natural break in the text where images can be put.
