A Clockwork Orange is a popular dystopian novel. Due to its fame and acclaim it can likely be found in most bookstores, however this particular book was purchased at an indigo in Toronto. The audience for this book is adults and young adults.

The font used in this book is a very popular font that is common particularly in lengthy texts such as a novel, scientific, or educational texts. According to an article by Eugene Sadko on font characteristics, serifs help the eye move faster along the line of text. Serifs help to prevent optical distortion, so that the baseline and optical height are preserved. This is an example of the crystal goblet principal, because in this case the font helps the reader become immersed in the text.  The text is small and there are not many paragraphs breaks which may detract from its readability, however the way the paragraphs are broken is part of the way that the book is read. Because the book is short in length with long paragraphs it makes sense that the book itself would be smaller, because this allows for less characters on each line, increasing its readability. The layout of the book draws no attention to itself. The idea of using serifs in order to increase readability and flow while reading is something that I will keep in mind for the future.
